SPYDER MUSTER 2020 / Re: Accommodation for Spyder Muster 2020

If you're desperately keen to do dirt on the Spyder and see Ayers Rock, I would suggest that you consider going north from Wirrulla SA to Kingoonya then on to Coober Pedy on ya way back east.  That's a bit under 300km of dirt without sand traps, compared to over 1000km on the Central Road.  It didn't have wheel ruts when I did it 6 months ago by car, but of course that can change in a day as you say.

In and around Wilpena Pound and the gorges are do-able in dry weather, tho it can be a bit rocky in the creek beds and the SA road condition reports are excellent.   :drinkcheer:

Yes you are.  My 2 sons and 2 of their mates are doing that 'highway' right now, left Laverton yesterday, arriving Uluru later today - on 3 adventure bikes with a support vehicle and spare bike on trailer with room of another.  They say the road is mostly a good dirt road but there are stretches of very bad corrugations and others with moderately deep sand.  That's about how it was last time I did it in a Commodore towing a camper trailer - for the second time.  The first time, 10 years earlier was very much worse.  The problem a Spyder rider would have is dealing with the wheel ruts thru the sandy sections.  A Spyder will get bogged within 3 metres in sandy tracks - I've tried, but not on that road.  And remember a Spyder is not built for such conditions - it will fall apart.   It can be done on 2 wheels, or 4 wheels, but not 3 in my experience - but I hope you make it.  If you don't you won't have far to turn back - once you get help.  If you do make it you can call me anything you like - just not late for dinner.   :biker:

By the way, you need permits to traverse the Aboriginal lands, or you may not be able to buy fuel.

Update:  they made it to Uluru just on sunset.   :drinkcheer:

Further update on Grt Central Road for anyone else contemplating doing it:  My daughter and her 2 teenagers are doing it at present 20/7/19 from Uluru to Laverton.  The section from The Olgas to Warakurna roadhouse is rather stoney.  She got one thru a sidewall on her Subaru Forrester Turbo near the NT border.  Amazingly they had a new tyre at Warakurna - for $350

No - I'm NOT dreaming. Current info is that the unsealed road between Laverton and the NT border can be accomplished by ordinary 2WD vehicles and that extra fuel is not necessary as it is available about every 300k, as is accommodation.
Obviously, bad weather could change this tomorrow.
However, PLANNING the trip now is certainly reasonable.

You're dreaming.  They'll never make it without lotsa trailers or extra fuel and a well equipped support vehicle & crew.

If you wanna explore some of WA for a few days, stick to the bitumen - take Great Northern Hwy out of Perth to Meekatharra, then back to Mt Magnet, turn east to Leinster then down to Kalgoorlie and home to the eastern states.

Problem:  If travelling from the East, the Nullabor is a L-O-N-G way - and you then have to travel back! spy-de
How about I bring my Jimny plus trailer and act as tail-end-charlie for those Spyders willing to attempt the Great Central Rd to Uluru and Erldunda from Laverton?
